Forever Oceans™ sponsored the North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association (NCRLA) Chef Showdown for the second year in a row! Jamie Davis, Oscar Johnson, and Daniel Wheeler used our Forever Oceans™ Kanpachi to compete at the Grand Finale Monday, August 8th in Raleigh, NC.

Chef Oscar Johnson from Jimmy Pearls in Charlotte, North Carolina won Chef of the Year! Oscar took the top title of North Carolina ‘s largest Culinary Competition at the event’s Grand Finale held at the Angus Barn Pavilion.

This Charlotte, NC chef’s Winning dish was a salute to those who came before him, his heritage and his Southern and African roots. Oyster grits souffle, Kontomire (a traditional African stew), Forever Oceans™ Kanpachi fillet, and Beet Chermoula.

Here’s more about the deliciousness on the plate…

This is a dish of Cateto grits souffle filled with oyster gravy, a West African stew called Kontomire aka Palava, which consists of Njama Njama leaves, Malabar spinach, Sweet Potato leaves, smoked fish, and scotch bonnet pepper. Lastly, there’s pan seared, sustainably-raised Forever Oceans™ Kanpachi, chiogga beet chermoula, and crispy field peas.
